Exciting travel destinations

If you prefer an active vacation to one where you are just lounging around, please share your favorite destinations.

Where do you prefer to go and what do you do?

`Anyplace where there are tropical rainforests. Especially if those tropical rainforests are located in mountains. Every tropical rainforest is different: a Costa Rican rainforest looks different from an Ecuadorean rainforest looks different from a Hong Kong rainforest looks different from a Micronesian rainforest. And in some higher elevation or drier rain forests, you actually do not need to cover yourself head-to-toe in protective clothing; I wore shorts and t-shirt a lot in the coastal mountains of Ecuador and was not bothered much by insects.

Also, to me a beach need not be a place to lounge around, if the surf is small enough that I can go in safely. Swimming is a passion of mine -- oceans, rivers, lakes (as long as they are not too cold), even ponds. Pohnpei Lagoon had spectacular coral reefs close enough to the surface for snorkeling. Chuuk Lagoon had less extensive snorkeling areas, but there was so little current I didn't even need to wear fins.
